characters: At the beginning I didn't liked Charles because he seems not independetn because his mother decided everything. Then I felt a bit pity for him because of the circumstances but he wasn't really empathetic and he had blinkers on. At the beginning we haven't gained a lot of information about Emma but with the time passes by I like her less and less because she is very selfish, manipulative and unfair. I didn't liked Rudolphe from the beginning. The only person I like were Léon and the maid. And I really felt pity for Berthe - such a jinx.
opinion: The bgeinning is arduous. Then the story is becoming faster and more entertaining. But I don't like the story itself pretty much because I don't like the characters and I really don't like their actions with the betrayal, the manipulations, the lies, the blinkers on. But I think that in this book Gustave Flaubert showed a really imprtant topic with the subject that often we aren't happy with what we have and always want more - in this case it is Emma who is feeling this. That is why I don't really liked the book but it keeps you thinking about it for a while afterwards and also while reading it.
