“Wildest Dreams” ist der erste Band der IMPERIAL Reihe. Im Fokus ist Lauren, die zusammen mit ihrer Freundin Jane ein einjähriges Praktikum am Hofe der Königsfamilie absolvieren soll. Dort kommt sie Prinz Alexander näher, doch der ist längst einer anderen versprochen.
Das Cover des Bandes mag ich sehr, da man sofort den Verlag dahinter erkennt und es sich perfekt mit den weiteren Bänden ergänzt. Was den Inhalt betrifft, so denke ich, dass ich mit zu hohen Erwartungen rangegangen bin und das Buch somit nicht meinem persönlichen Geschmack getroffen hat. Grundidee des Buches ist die häufig verwendete Trope mit der Liebesgeschichte zwischen dem einfachen Mädchen und dem Prinzen. Gefallen hat mir hier, dass die diversen Charaktere in die heutige Zeit versetzt worden. Es gibt Smartphones und feierwütige Junge Erwachsene, deren Fokus auf Drogen, Alkohol und Sex liegt. Leider konnte mich die erste Hälfte des Buches überhaupt nicht überzeugen. Natürlich muss eine Serie zu Beginn Charaktere, Absichten, Probleme vorstellen, doch die Umsetzung dessen war mir persönlich zu berechenbar. Ich hätte auch Zeilen/Seiten überspringen können. Zudem wurde das wenige, was passierte noch einmal regelmäßig zusammengefasst.
Doch sobald der verschwundene Vater von Lauren auftaucht, wie im Klappentext angekündigt, hatte ich sehr viel Freude und habe die Seiten nur so verschlungen. Die Charaktere bekamen Tiefe, da man ihre persönlichsten Ängste kennenlernte, aber auch mit ihnen mitleiden konnte. Zudem war der Plot nicht mehr vorhersagbar. Hilflos sehe ich zu, wie die ganze Thematik immer mehr komplizierter wird, und ja, ich bin nun gespannt, wie es im 2. Band weiter geht. Das Ende hat sehr viele neue Fragen aufkommen lassen und ich bin gespannt, was noch auf mich zukommt.
Abschließend kann ich sagen, dass für meinen persönlichen Geschmack die erste Hälfte des Buches mich leider nicht überzeugen konnte. Dennoch weiß ich, dass sehr viele Leser dieses Buch geliebt haben und ich daher denke, dass dir dieses gefallen könnte, wenn du gern Liebesromane rund um Royale Familien und Intrigen liest.

‚The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn‘ follows the story of Huck who escapes society and challenges views of the American 19th century.
The story has many turns and entertains with humour and the naivety of Huck. Despite racist language, the book underlines that a slave is a human being such as Huck is, too. The corruption of society is addressed as well. While reading, the reader must keep the time in mind when the book was written since it contains outdated believes. Therefore, the novel provides an inside into Southern US culture. Using dialect, the text is partly difficult to comprehend.
I would not recommend this book to everyone. If you want to create your own opinion about the racism issue within the text and its reputation as the first American novel, you should give it a try.

Seacole describes her adventurous life in her autobiography. Her restless moving and selfless caring for others make her a quite unique character. It is interesting to see how she follows her path though it is such a strong contrast to the Victorian ideal of a woman. Furthermore, her being a person of colour makes this read even more special. Nevertheless, keep in mind that the way of writing seems to be a bit odd as it has been written quite some time ago.

‘Oliver Twist’ is a classic. It is a moving, but hopeful story about a young boy. While the reader follows him, the British Victorian society is shown. I struggled to comprehend the formal and older English language. The text is accompanied by pictures from the original publications. Overall, the story is very entertaining.

In “In Watermelon Sugar” an unnamed narrator describes life in a community. Most things are made out of watermelon sugar and due to the sun different coloured sugars grow every other day of the week. Themes of love and betrayal, friendship and death.
The language and the very brief chapters enable a quick and fluent read. Nevertheless, it is up to the reader to understand what is meant by the various descriptions of life. This can be very strange, too, because some reasons are never fully explained.
This book leaves you questioning some of society’s actions. You will either love or hate it.
