"you look best when you're you'
I read this book in the middle of the night on my bathroom floor totally flustered, giggling with Gracie Abrams playing in the background.
While I absolutely love YA novels, I always had quite some issues with YA rom-coms. Often times they felt unrealistic, not because of the storyline but because the characters did not feel like teenagers at all but just like the romanticized picture of them in some +30 year olds brain. (no hate at all)
BUT THIS BOOK????? it hit SO CLOSE to home and was just adorable!
With Liz we have a obvious, hopeless romantic protaganist that was really cringe and a bad friend at some times, but I didn't mind that at all. Teeangers are cringe and even though Liz's action weren't reasonable, I didn't hate her for them. I was just, very often, shaking my head while facepalming.
Wes, on the other hand, made me as mad as he made Liz at the beginning. I hate the narrative of "he's just annoying you because he likes you" but in this case it worked so so well. It worked so well that I also totally fell for Wes. Trying to help Liz getting with her crush just for her to be happy even though he totally likes her??? CHEF KISSES!
And don't get me started on their chemistry. There was so much tension and their banter?? I was laughing the whole time because of their unbelievable cuteness.
What I didn't expect was that this book also made me bawl like a baby. The end was so emotional for me and I can't really explain why (all I am saying is bathroom scene towards the ending)
Here and there, there were some things that didn't make fully sense for me during the book but honestly: I can overlook that.
The feelings I had while reading this were immaculate. I was on the search for a really good YA romance for so long and this finally made me fall in love with this genre all over again.
