These books are so hard for me to review, cause it's seriously well written and I do like the story a lot. But something about the characters, except for Joan and Aaron, and the relationships between them, the vibes are just really off.
I can't connect with any of them, but that doesn't matter if only I could root for them. But that's also not the case. I simply do not care how and "when" they end up. The ending of the book should be really exciting and shocking, but I'm not sure I care enough to find out how this will all be resolved.
There was also just too much Nick in this book. I get it, he has a tragic backstory. But he still feels like an untoasted piece of bread for me that doesn't have anything interesting going on.
I do love the writing and I really love how the time traveling element is done in this story.
But it's just hard to get into when you don't care or when the focus is on a character that doesn't make you feel anything except a whole lot of meh.
Also, I switched to the audiobook after a few pages and the narrator did a really good job, the only reason I finished this.
Somehow I didn't notice that it was a trilogy instead of a duology and that just pissed me off when I reached the end. It's a bummer, cause the third one does have the prettiest cover LOL but I'm not sure I'm gonna read it. Right now it's a no.
