This fourth volume [after PAS 21 to 23] on the tell settlement of Olynth, explored to some 1% in 1994-6, is dedicated to the memory of the deceased excavator Bernhard Hänsel [1937-2017]. The Middle Bronze Age layers at Olynth connect to the Early and Late Bronze Age ones without any hiatus and enable an unprecedented fine chronological differentiation of the pottery sequence in Northern Greece, which is also dated absolutely by means of a calibration model for the existing radiocarbon dates. Numerous import finds from the southern Greek mainland and the Aegean archipelago also impressively attest the intense nature of economic and cultural contacts between Central Macedonia and these regions. For the material culture of the neighbouring Balkan regions to the north, Olynth will probably become an important reference stratigraphy of the 1st half of the 1st millenium, too. The either handmade or wheel-thrown pottery wares include fine, intermediate, and coarse pottery, reddish pottery, slip pottery, painted pottery, wheel-thrown pottery, Minyan and imitated Minyan pottery, all of which are presented in detail on the CD-ROM.
