Christian Orendt
Begeisterungsbereitschaftsbekundungsbedürfnislosigkeitszustand
Alongside his involvement in the duo Böhler & Orendt, Christian Orendt (born 1980 in Sighisoara/Romania) works continually on the independent body of his own drawings. This, his third monograph designed as an artist’s book, contains a selection of pieces from this oeuvre, created over the last few years as small-format works on paper.
In these works, the artist examines both the commonplace features and the furthest corners of the chaotic reality that surrounds us in life, as well as people’s desperate attempts to assign a meaningful structure to it. Largely based on the interplay between text and pictorial elements, the artworks depicted deconstruct the supposed meaning fulness of reality, and in doing so appear generally melancholy, derisive, tragic, and comic in equal measure. An accompanying essay by Michael Glasmeier reflects on and contextualizes Christian Orendt’s artistic approach.
