‘A Bend in the Road’ tells how Miles and Sarah fall in love. She is a teacher who recently divorced. He is a sheriff whose wife got killed in an unsolved hit-and-run accident. Their love will only success when they overcome their past.
At first, I thought that this will become a solid 5 star read. The story was cute to read and reasonable. The first part of the book is a typical Romance, the second one rather reminds me of a detective novel. I disliked that Sparks put the simulated unnecessary misunderstanding in the ending that created more drama. It made the reading uncomfortable. Nevertheless, I was surprised about the ending. This is a good Romance.

‘no one is talking about this’ is a about a woman whose life is dominated by the internet. In Part One of the book, the reader faces multiple ideas and posts. In the middle of the book, this life is turned upside down and the woman finds herself back in the real life. This duality can be seen in the beautiful cover as well. Lockwood’s language is very unique. It feels like you are reading an endless stream of consciousness, jumping from one idea to another, metaphors over metaphors. You will either love or hate it. There are so many messages hidden behind her words. The story itself has fun moments, but made me cry in the end as well. This is a very unique novel and a piece of art.

Seacole describes her adventurous life in her autobiography. Her restless moving and selfless caring for others make her a quite unique character. It is interesting to see how she follows her path though it is such a strong contrast to the Victorian ideal of a woman. Furthermore, her being a person of colour makes this read even more special. Nevertheless, keep in mind that the way of writing seems to be a bit odd as it has been written quite some time ago.

In ‘The Switch’ Leena and Eileen, granddaughter and grandmother, swap their lives. While Leena moves to the countryside to escape from work, Eileen discovers the life as a single in London. This book is a fun, comfy and entertaining read. Nevertheless, it deals with overcoming insecurities, developing and finding oneself, too. Most of the time, I laughed while reading though some tears rolled in the end as well. I absolutely enjoyed this book.

‘Reasons to Stay Alive’ is Haig’s memoir about his experience with his mental illness. In the book, the reader follows Haig’s journey to recover or rather finding a way to deal with it. The short and diversified chapters make it easy to read. The book provides hope without leaving out the reality of the illness. If you suffer from mental illness, you may find comfort in reading the book. If you are indirectly affected and support a beloved one, you will gain insight about what it feels like the live with mental illness and develop your understanding. Haig opens up and gives private details away. Nevertheless, he mentions a lot of facts too which raises awareness of the relevant topic. I can only recommend reading this book.
