40 Jahre elektroakustische Musik an Folkwang

Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert eine Reihe von Vorträgen und Gesprächsrunden, die anlässlich der Tagung '40 Jahre elektroakustische Musik an Folkwang' im April 2011 an der Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen präsentiert wurden. Die Beiträge bieten einen Überblick über Anfänge und Entwicklung der elektroakustischen Musik und verknüpfen dies mit Reflexionen zu ihrer hausinternen Geschichte. Darüber hinaus würdigt die Publikation die Arbeit von Dirk Reith, dessen Biografie als Komponist, Hochschullehrer und Leiter des Instituts für Computermusik und Elektronische Medien (ICEM) eng mit der elektroakustischen Musik und ihrer institutionellen Verankerung im Lehrbetrieb verknüpft ist. Indem der Band in gleichem Maße theoretische Auseinandersetzung wie künstlerische Praxis thematisiert, unterstreicht er jenes produktive Ineinandergreifen beider Bereiche, das für das Selbstverständnis der Folkwang Universität der Künste charakteristisch ist, und dem sich Dirk Reith mit seiner künstlerischen und pädagogischen Tätigkeit immer verpflichtet fühlte.

This volume documents a series of lectures and round table discussions from the conference “40 years of Electroacoustic Music at Folkwang”, held in April 2011 at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. In keeping with the stimulus for this event the contributions offer an overview of problems and issues in electroacoustic music and link these with reflections on the history of the genre at the institution. In addition, the publication recognises the work of Dirk Reith, whose biography as a composer, university teacher and head if the Institute for Computer Music and Electronic Media (ICEM) is closely linked with electroacoustic music at Folkwang and the way it has become fixed in the curriculum. Because the volume embraces equally the themes of theoretical study and artistic practice, it emphasises the productive collaboration between the two areas which characterises the self-conception of the Folkwang University of the Arts and which Dirk Reith has always considered to be essential to his artistic and educational activity.
