I have been following Emelie Forsberg and Kilian Jornet for a while. Thus, I got quite excited hearing about her book and preordered it on amazon (English version by Hardie Grant books). The book is beautifully done. I love that it is hard cover, with beautiful photographs and great print quality. However, I was expecting more from this book. I guess this book can be described as Emelie´s life story. For much of the book, it feels like she’s rambling, like we are just reading random thoughts she put together in a blog post, where she sometimes repeats her thoughts a few times over. A lot of the articles also contain grammatical errors and repeated words (eg, “than” instead of “then” and sentences like “So far our acclimatization plan works so far.”). I also felt like she shared some bits and pieces about her background, but not nearly enough. Overall this book feels like a collection of snippets and thoughts from and about Emelies life, but nothing concrete. The photographs are beautiful, and I was inspired by some of her thoughts. I also like the workout tips, yoga poses and the recipes. I guess one could see this as a coffee table book, to flick through from time to time. Overall, I had expected and hoped for more. I feel like some thorough editing could have made so much more out of the book and I hope the editors take this to heart for her next book project. Nevertheless, I will keep this book as a source of inspiration, especially to look at the beautiful photographs of Emelie running in the high places of this beautiful world.
