Constantin Luser
Musik zähmt die Bestie
Katrin Bucher Trantow (Herausgeber), Katia Huemer (Herausgeber)
The exhibition at Kunsthaus Graz is a wide-ranging solo show by the Austrian artist and drawer. At the core of his practice lies the notion of translating a drawing into the physically experiential world of space, made up of surface feel, sound, and movement. The catalog accompanying this exhibition provides the most comprehensive overview of the artist’s work to date. Numerous illustrations document his work thus far, with the exhibition shown in installation views. Select texts by curators and companions of Luser’s are published here for the first time. In addition, one chapter of the volume provides a platform for the artist’s network, from the instrument maker (Alois Mayr) to the composer (Peter Jakober), the bandoneon tuner (Carsten Heveling), the photographer (Markus Roessle) to the technical advisor (Martin Huth) with whom Luser worked over many years — hereby emphasizing the different perspectives and authorships that are an integral part of Luser’s work. An introduction is provided by the two curators of the exhibition, Katrin Bucher Trantow and Katia Huemer, with further articles by international authors Hans Ulrich Obrist, Bettina Steinbrügge, and Fatos Üstek placing Luser’s work in a contemporary artistic context.
